Friday Cat Blogging

As you can see, it's nap-time around The Countess's manor house. Beowulf and Domino are sleeping on my bed. Beowulf is on the left, and Domino is on the right. Lucky just woke up, and he's demanding attention already. I'm sure he wants to play ball. He wants to play ball all the time.

They are adorable...

I'm actually babysitting my granddaughter over the Thanksgiving week and her father's CAT...as both my daughter and him are going away the Friday after Thanksgiving...

So I will have a cat back in my house for a week...

I vowed after my cat and dog died within months of each other a few years ago that I wouldn't have any more pets...but I'm giving in at least temporarily...

So we'll see how that works out...

You're going to have the cat over Thanksgiving? Make sure the cat gets lots of turkey. Our cats love turkey. Fresh kill. ;)

If you want someone to talk you into a cat, I can do it. You live in New York, and there is a Siamese/Snowshoe Rescue in that state. I had a Snowshoe. It's a cross between a domestic shorthair and a Siamese. Very intelligent, friendly, and talkative cats. I was surprised when I learned that there are purebred rescues. Of course, you can go to a shelter to get a cat, but the purebred rescues are great if you're looking for something specific. We were owned by a Snowshoe, and he was the goofiest and smartest cat I have ever had. He died of cancer three years ago, and I still miss him.

I had a Siamese, not a Snowshoe however...

But I have to wait to get another animal because I went through a lot when they died and don't want to have to face that again in a hurry...My cat was 14 and my dog 9, so I'm just going to wait a bit to try that again...

Anyway, I might wind up inheriting this cat I'm babysitting anyway, as my granddaughter informed me her father has been trying to give it away for months now...He's the type that will drop it off and never pick it up again...

The other thing is how are snowshoes if they are alone all day...as I live alone now and work all day...So is it going to be running around the house all day crying while I'm at work.

When I got the other animals over 10 years ago I had people running in and out of the house all day, plus other pets...By the time that stopped they were so old they just slept all day anyway so it didn't matter, but NOW whatever animal I get is going to be pretty much alone until 6:00 every night.

So are these cats okay alone is my question????

I always thought that it's best to get two kittens so they have someone to play with. Snowshoes are very sociable cats. They love people and other animals. I'm sure a single Snowshoe would do just fine, but you might want to get two so they can keep each other company. Get kittens, if you can. Koala (my old Snowshoe) liked everyone. He liked people and other cats, and all the cats got along with him great. Even the kittens from another one of my cats in Maryland (also named Scully; I have another cat named Scully now), loved him. They tried to nurse on him - a male cat. It was funny. They just loved him. That irritated him, but he liked the kittens. He loved playing with cats and kittens.

If you want to read more about Snowshoe's, try this site. It includes information and a picture. Snowshoes look like applehead Siamese cats, but they have white "boots", hence the name "Snowshoe". You'll love having a Snowshoe.

Snowshoes are also uncommon cats, so you'll get lots of curious questions from people. Koala was always my favorite cat. He had all kinds of strange habits, and he liked everyone. You'll like having a Snowshoe.
