Friday Cat Blogging

Sorry, no photos of Lucky today because my digital camera is on the fritz. I have no idea when it'll be fixed. Lucky has a new food favorite - anise-flavored Italian pizzelle (waffle) cookies. He kept sticking his head in the cookie bag this morning and I had to give him one. He loved it. I never figured I'd run into a cat that liked cookies but Lucky is odd in his own way anyhow.

Some cat news:

There have been mountain lion sightings in Acton, Massachusetts. Luckily, I don't live anywhere near Acton so I don't have to worry about mountain lions.

Something you don't see everyday: cat kidney transplants.

More useless trivia: "If a stock -- or the stock market -- experiences a short, sharp rise in price immediately after a steep fall, it is said to have had a "dead cat bounce." The term originates from the morbid saying that even a dead cat will bounce if it is dropped from a high place."

A rare and endangered fishing cat is on exhibit at a Minnesota zoo. She was born in July. From the article: "Fishing cats, best known for their ability to fish, are native to southwest India, Sri Lanka, Southern Himalayas, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Myanmar, Southern China, Sumatra, Java, and Thailand. Due to their aquatic nature and diet, they are commonly found in areas associated with water. Marshy thickets, mangrove swamps and densely vegetated areas near streams, rivers and lakes are all suitable habitat for this species."

Here is a photo of a fishing cat:

I think that if someone has a cat, by law, they should have a camera.

So, going to participate in Carnival of the Cats anyway with this "borrowed" cat picture?

Yes, I plan to enter COTC this week. I'm not sure where it's being held this week but I did ask someone in e-mail.

My cat actually passed on last year from a kidney problem. She was 14 years old...Ironically my dog got the same problem and passed on a few months after her, he was 10...Both were treated at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, which has a fantastic group of doctors by the way and specialists in kidney problems in 'companion animals' as they called them...

It seems kidney problems are very common in housecats and dogs actually...probably related to their diet which I found out after the fact...

But both lived a fairly healthy life and to a fairly decent age as pets go...but if I had known sooner about the diet thing they would have lived longer...

If I could get Dingbat Feakin to come out of the basement, I'd be in COTC, too.... :PPPPPPP
