More Pizza Goings On

About a week ago The Countess and I saw this really cool looking Japanese Pizza Hut pizza, and we thought to ourselves "Hey, selves, that's a really cool looking Japanese Pizza Hut pizza." (3,550 Yen for the large is $30.)

The Countess immediately asked me to make one. See what happened, on the flipside.

First is the nekkid pie. It's just regular dough spread out on the bottom, and extra dough to wrap the sausage. The sausage is 5 minute steamed breakfast sausage, cut in half. The first thought I had when I finished this part is that the sausage thingies look just like the face hugger egg cases in Alien. The specks in the dough are basil I kneaded in.

Next is the raw pie, all topped up and ready to bake. As you can see, the household is segregated into pooperoni eaters and non-pooperoni eaters. Also, one of us likes the toppings on top and the other likes the toppings under the cheez. Now that's real diversity in action.

Last is the finished pie, all full of bubbly goodness. For those wondering, the dark spots on the cheese are oregano. Yes, I'm sure some of you out there looking at this are getting that old gut clenching feeling. Luckily, that isn't us.

Well, the verdict is that it was worthwhile, and that we need to do it one more time with different sausage before passing a final verdict. The probem is that the only breakfast sausage (or anything of that size) I could find was either maple or brown sugar smoked/flavored, and the sweetness conflicted with the rest of the pizza.

I want to do it again with something more like a bratwurst. The sausage/dough combo baked well, and you could just tear one off the crust and munch on it. It was tasty in isolation but did not play well with the rest of the pizza.
