Facebook's "Instant Personalization" Setting Violates Privacy

NEW FACEBOOK SETTING VIOLATES PRIVACY. As of yesterday, NEW PRIVACY setting called "Instant Personalization" that shares data with non-Facebook websites was installed and it is automatically set to "Enable."

Go to Account > Privacy Settings > Applications and Websites >Instant Personalization > Edit or customize Settings, ...and... un-check "Enable".

BTW, if your friends don't disable the "Instant Personalization" setting, they will be sharing information about you. PLEASE COPY AND REPOST.

Adrianne Brennan: Social networking sites--useful or a distraction?

blood and mint chocolates Pictures, Images and Photos

[This is a guest post by erotic romance writer Adrianne Brennan.]

Facebook, MySpace, Livejournal, Twitter, Bebo, Glee, LinkedIn, Friendster, Orkut, Goodreads...there must be a million social networking sites out there. These days at least one of them winds up in the news for one reason or another. Facebook's TOS issues have caused quite a stir, and it was said that they aided President Obama in his campaign.

But how useful are they? For social creatures and extroverts like myself, they provide interaction with people of similar backgrounds and interests whom I never would've met had it not been for the chosen Web 2.0 medium. For introverts, they are typically seen as a pain, only useful to know what a bunch of their friends are all up at the same time to without checking a million different sites.

I personally hang out at these sites for the most part:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=35505550974

What ones are your favorites, and which could you do without? I personally prefer Twitter and Facebook these days, and Livejournal remains a favorite. I admit that I can't stand MySpace and while it's undergone a lot of improvements over the past several months I still find it to be annoying and buggy. Do you find that they're overrated, or a time suck from more valuable things such as smelling the flowers or writing your latest novel?

Love & Magic,
Adrianne

My New RomanceWiki Page

I recently found out about RomanceWiki from the authors at Whiskey Creek Press Torrid, so I created my own author page. Come check it out! I think I did a nice job:

I included all my eXcessica books, Scarlet stories, and Tit-Elation stories with genre descriptions, my Nuts4chic links and stuff, upcoming books, and graphics. Everything you need to know to read my works, join my groups, and buy stuff is on this RomanceWiki site.

My "Sex And The City" Post Made The NYT Topic List!!!

Wow, and I wrote that post only an hour ago.

My post "I Can't Stand 'Sex And The City'" made the New York Times topic page. I wonder what kind of reaction I'll get?

Maybe it's time I resurrected this blog from its sleep. I still get a lot of hits on it. I just haven't updated much since moving from family law writing to sex writing.

I'm just tickled that the New York Times topic page found my post. Ha!!! Let's see what kind of trouble I'll get in now. evil_smiley.gif

Change Your Bookmarks! I Have A New Blog!

I have moved to a new location, so update your bookmarks. Here's my new address:

The Countess

It's the same old me, but I focus exclusively on erotic romance writing and sex. Change your bookmarks, and come see my new digs! I will soon close all comments and trackbacks on this blog. I won't delete my blog, though. It's a record of my former life as a family law activist, and I'd like to keep it for posterity.

See you at the new site!

Thunderstorms Are Here

Thunderstorms are expected throughout the day and night, and they're starting hard now. The wind is blowing like crazy.

I plan to post as long as I can, and I need to read some stuff on the Internet, so I'll be here until the electricity goes out. It went out a little earlier for a second or two. I have a feeling I'm going to lose power. Good thing I have my Santeria candles to light up the house. Yes, I collect Santeria candles. I have Oshun (river and stream goddess), Yemaya (ocean goddess), and a love candle. I also have saint candles, but they're buried in a box somewhere. We still have unpacking to do, but there isn't enough room for our stuff in this apartment. What we really need are about six bookcases. The boxes are mostly full of books. Once we get the bookcases, I can completely unpack our belongings.

What I've Been Up To

I'm still in the running with the publisher to get my novel published. I probably won't hear much more about that until the end of the month. If I'm turned down, I already have chosen the next two publishers that will get my manuscript. It would be nice to be chosen by the current publisher, though.

This morning, I heard from a company I thought had forgotten about me. I'm writing articles for them now, all about sex in general and some about sex toys. It's a nice assignment, and I'm enjoying it very much.

I'm also working on some short erotic stories for magazines with deadlines at the end of the month. I hope my stories are accepted.

I've otherwise been taking it easy and enjoying the spring. The weather has been beautiful, and I hope it stays warm.
