More Oddball Judge News
Guy tries to get past court house security with a bar-be-que fork, but the fork is confiscated. However, the knife he had in his sock wasn't confiscated. He allegedly threw the knife at a judge, and missed. The knife didn't hit anyone.
It was interesting enough to me that he tried to get a bar-be-que knife past security. But he allegedly threw a knife at a judge!
I'm getting the impression that being a judge is a dangerous job. Too many wackos want to take them out.

Bad guy goes away for a while.
Bailiff gets to put his Taser/restraint/butt kicking training to use.
Judge goes home safe and sound.
Everybody wins! Kinda nifty how things sorta work themselves out every now and then.

I'm sure it's always been risky to be a judge. Such risks are deplorable, but inevitable in those situations where there must perforce be a winner and a loser.

Yeah--judges aren't too popular--especially in family court and criminal court.
I'd like to know how this guy got the knife past the metal detectors. It must be a pretty small town not to have metal detectors. When I was a PD, everyone but court personnel had to walk through the metal detectors...

Some knives cannot be detected.

Knives are up-close and personal weapons not really intended to be thrown so it defeats the purpose of throwing a hand-to-hand weapon away from it's user. Even if the thrower aims well he still has to use the right equipment. Knives balanced for throwing are pretty specialized tools. You can't just hop on over to Wally World and pick up a set.
Thankfully, this idiot watched too many Hollywood movies.
By the way, that site's Fox Labs pepper spray is mighty effective on abusive husbands and boyfriends. Aim for the forehead and it'll burn em' twice. Once right there and again when they shower it out of their hair. :)
When I drove a taxi I used Fox Labs stuff and I know firsthand that it's powerful enough to cut through a drunkard's haze. I've given it as gifts to female friends who live alone.

Dennis, did I tell you I'm a fan of sharp weapons? I'm not a gun nut like you. I do like vintage guns, though. If I ever bought a gun, I'd buy an old Winchester rifle as a collectable. I like the worksmanship. The only other guns I'd buy would be Desert Eagles because I'm a Tomb Raider fan, and Lara Croft uses Desert Eagles. I don't know much about guns.
Knives are hard to throw. They need to be weighted properly to be thrown. They're better used up close and personal, like you said. I have lots of knives that are both useful as utensils and are ornamental. A friend of mine gave me a very nice knife for my birthday. He knows how much I love knives. I have an ornamental knife with a mermaid and shell as a handle. I use that to eat very often. It's a heavy knife, and very beautiful. I like my knives. ;)
I wish I was strong enough to pull the bow for my pistol grip crossbows. Those things are fun to play with. I have targets that I use for practice. The Count has to draw the bow for me because my arms are too weak to do it. I need to buff up.

I like some of the old firearms too. Right now I'm rebuilding a Martini Cadet, a training rifle from the days of the British empire. I like some knives, mostly Benchmade brand. Some of the Damascus steel in those high end knives is absolutely beautiful!

Oh, wow, you rebuild cool guns. I'd like to buy some vintage firearms sometime. Can you recommend a good web site that sells them, including reproductions? I need to upgrade my weapons collection. I want an antique Wincester rifle!
I think I've seen Damascus steel. It is beautiful. Once The Count gets his new job, and I bring in more money from my writing, I'm upgrading my weapons collection. I need to get either cases for the weapons or shelves that hang from the walls for them. I like Museum Replicas Limited and Atlanta Cutlery. They make some good stuff.

"Can you recommend a good web site that sells them, including reproductions?"
www.gunbroker.com and www.gunsamerica.com is like E-Bay for guns. I sell at Gunbroker under the name "ArmedPopulace".
WWW.SASSnet.com is the page of the "Single Action Shooting Society". They dress in period costume and shoot the old western guns. I was a member for a year but let it lapse. I do have a knockoff of the rifle used in "Quigly Down Under", though. Check out that site's affiliated clubs for a group near you.
http://www.surplusrifle.com/index.asp That site can teach you about WW1 and 2 stuff. Other than that most of the things I've found online have been through Google.
