Snow And Hot Chocolate - The Perfect Combination
The Royal Spawn begged for more of my hot chocolate today. I make really rich hot chocolate. It snowed today, and a snowstorm would not be complete without hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows floating on top.
Here's a recipe for those who feel the same craving:
Per cup:
1 1/2 tbsp. Giarardelli 60% cocoa powder
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup milk
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tbsp. sugar
Mix everything together in a saucepan, and heat it up. When the cocoa has mixed sufficiently, pour the hot chocolate into your mug and add as many marshmallows as you like. I like a little hot chocolate with my marshmallows. The Count and The Royal Spawn like a lot fewer marshmallows.
Sit back, drink your hot chocolate, and pray that it doesn't snow so much that you have to dig out the car and the driveway.

To make the cocoa even better -- and it already sounds awesome -- here's a tip. Before you add the milk and such, blend together the cocoa, sugar, and about a tablespoon of water. mix those all together first, and heat a bit, then add the milk and cream -- you'll find it blends im MUCH more smoothly!
And, of course, my personal tip for making it better always ends in "then add a whole lot of amaretto," but maybe that's just me.

Thanks for the tip, Molly. I knew to make a sauce first with the cocoa, but I was too lazy. ;) The chocolate blended fine.
I agree that "a whole lot of amaretto" is another great baking tip. Heh. :D

I've always been a fan of not using powder, but taking a block of chocolate and a cheese grater and just shaving the chocolate right in.
But that's me, and I am weird.
(although I would not be against the amaretto)

You just boil water and throw in some chocolate shavings? Does that work? What kind of chocolate? How much water to how much chocolate shavings?

Tavi, if you use just water, you'll end up with diluted chocolate. Use either a bar of baking chocolate (a good chocolate, like Lindt or Ghirardelli) or good cocoa powder, milk, cream, and vanilla per my recipe.
