The Beer Drinker's Bill Of Rights

This "Bill of Rights" was purportedly written by the founder of Sam Adams. I don't know if it's real or if it's a hoax, but it was so much fun I decided to post it anyway. I don't drink much beer, but I do like Sam Adams, Shieff Stout, and Guinness Draft. I agree with the idea of drinking beer in bottles and not cans. It does taste better that way. I was amused by the "four classic beer ingredients" list because I've tried Belgian beer, and didn't like it because if I wanted a corked bottle of wine, I would have bought wine. I couldn't get used to the taste of Corsendonk. However, I like oatmeal stout and chocolate stout, so I wouldn't necessarily agree with the "four ingredients" rule.

The Beer Drinker's Bill of Rights (written by Samuel Adams Brewers):

We the Brewers of Samuel Adams, in order to create the perfect beer, declare the following truths to be self-evident:

I. All beer drinkers are guaranteed a right to enjoy the highest quality beer.

II. Beer shall be brewed employing only the four classic beer ingredients; water, yeast, malt and hops.

III. Use of adjuncts such as corn syrup, rice or corn grits is strictly prohibited as it lightens the true character of a fine brew.

IV. Beer shall be brewed over a length of time to maximize flavor, not a shorter time to maximize production.

V. The color of the bottle is essential to the quality of the beer; hence, bottling shall occur only in brown bottles to safeguard the beer from the damaging effects of light. No skunky beer.

VI. Beer shall be offered in bottles, not cans, so that no brew is jeopardized with the taste of metal.

VII. Beer shall be savored and enjoyed responsibly.

VIII. Beer shall be served at 35 (degrees) - 42 (degrees) F for maximum flavor.

IX. Light beers have equal right to flavor and body, as do all styles of beer.

X. Freshness of beer shall be considered of the utmost importance to all citizens.

Yes, you're 100% right on that one. Once my favorite brands wasn't available in bottles but only in cans, so I got a six pack of them and winded up throwing them all away. The cans gave the beer a strange taste actually.

With certain wine I know they only allow it to age in oak barrels, so there is definitely something about the container passing along a taste to whatever is stored within.

The biggest horror for me was finding out that Europe served their beer WARM, as they do most drinks.

YE GODS, that was one time I had to admit the wisdom of the ancients was just plain wrong.
