I'm Getting Married Today

I've always referred to my husband on my blog as my husband because we've been together for over a decade, yet we never bothered to fill out a marriage certificate or make it official. We've certainly felt married.

Well, today we get off our lazy asses and actually go through the marriage ceremony. I'm going to be officially married this afternoon. My son and stepson are here for the ceremony, which will be very small and held in our backyard. We have champagne and truffles (my homemade truffles) instead of a wedding cake. I wanted to make a red velvet cake for the wedding, but I don't have the right cake pans. Truffles are a nice switch.

Since I'm going to be busy this afternoon getting married, I won't be blogging much for the rest of today or the rest of the week. My dress is sea teal, and I'm using flowers from my garden for my bouquet.

Everyone enjoy my blog in the meantime, and try to not poke each other's eyes out too much. Smiley1

I'm getting married! I'm also going to be a countess by marriage, although the title is worthless. It's one of those Eastern European titles where the family lost the fortune ages ago. Still, I'll be a countess. This is exciting.

Congratulations Countess Trish! Quelle surprise. This is definitely time to come out of semi-lurking to say how much I admire you and your work (and have done for years). I wish you and your family a wonderful life together.

Posted by: Margaret at Jun 21, 2005 2:35:03 PM

Dear Lady, congratulations on your marriage! Wishing you and your partner the very best!

Ah, I well remember how often my feminist sisters told me that Lady was a title not a gender, as I do tend to use that descriptive term frequently. But now you will be a real Lady!

Posted by: lee at Jun 21, 2005 3:11:59 PM

Congratulations!

(Now you'll be a Minister and a Countess. How exciting. . .)

Hey! Congratulations! And marrying a Count is way cooler than marrying a Sultan ;)

Posted by: Spicy at Jun 21, 2005 3:56:30 PM

Congrats! I wish you hapiness and peace, may the piece of paper change nothing!

Posted by: That Girl at Jun 21, 2005 5:12:12 PM

Let's see. You live in Massachusetts. Gay people are allowed to get married in Massachusetts. Since they've been getting married, you and the count have decided to tie the knot. I think that puts the Right Wing Fundies' argument to rest, doesn't it? Gay marriage doesn't threaten straight marriages, gay marriage causes straights to get married! Gay marriage is good for marriage!

Congratulations, Trish! And I reserve the right to kiss the bride if and when we ever do meet on Cape Cod or Cape Ann or at Cape Canaveral if it comes to that!

Sorry I'm late, but best wishes to you, Countess!

Your wedding sounds really cool. The SO & I tied the knot as well 2 years ago after 10 years together, and we also had a pretty low-key thing.....actually, my poor parents don't even know we're married yet, but that's another story.

Anyoo, felicidades once again, Trish!

The blogosphere needs more countessess, and weddings need more truffles. Good to see some progress finally being made.

Big Deal...(he said snarkily)

Posted by: Masculiste at Jun 25, 2005 2:27:34 PM

Growing up down South I was always taught that according to standards of etiquette and a couple of centuries of tradition, it's appropriate to say "congratulations" to the groom and "best wishes" to the bride. How disturbing, like for the groom it's an acquisition.

For you, Trish, congratulations *and* best wishes. :-)

Posted by: Clancy at Jun 25, 2005 5:43:36 PM

Thanks for all the congrats and kind words, everyone. (Michael, your comment made me laugh. Hee hee!) We've been relaxing and enjoying our time together. The weather is beautiful, but a little too hot for me. I couldn't read in my garden for long yesterday because I wilted. I think I watered the ground around my lounge chair with all my sweat. ;)

I'm watching "Enchanted April" right now. I love that movie. I might be back to posting tomorrow.

Congratulations Trish! Are you having a honeymoon? in Transylvania or somewhere?

Posted by: Helen at Jun 28, 2005 5:33:55 AM

Nah, Helen. We just enjoyed a week at home, but we live near the ocean so it was like a vacation. We've been together for so long we already felt married. We just made it official.
