What A Disappointment!!

My husband and I sat through "Alien Apocalypse", starring Bruce Campbell. He was the only good thing about it. I should have listened to Elayne. Her husband sat through some of it, and he wasn't impressed.

He was right.

I've seen cat fur dust bunnies with better acting skills than all of the other actors in that movie. The "revolution" amounted to about fifty characters brandishing bows and arrows. It was embarrassing to watch. The bug aliens were pathetic. The only good thing was watching the bugs bite off the heads of the humans, but it wasn't that good.

I was looking forward to that movie because I thought it was going to be funny like "Army of Darkness." Oh, it was funny, but not intentionally, and not even often enough to be worth the trouble. The script sucked. It wasn't even so bad as to be good. It was just flat out boring. Even Bruce Campbell couldn't save it. He must have badly needed to pay the rent that month.

Sigh. I did TiVo it. I guess I should just skip it altogether and pop in my "Army of Darkness" DVD instead. I do love Bruce Campbell, though.

And what was it with all those guys with the cheesy beards that looked like someone glued a dead cat to their face? And "slavery" meant s l o w l y moving the same 2x4 from one spot to another 2 feet away, while a fat guy yells, "work harder!"

Bad writing, bad acting, stupid plot...that was one of the worst movies I've seen in years.

Good review...

How could I have forgotten those beards? One guy's beard was square and so fake I couldn't concentrate on the movie. Plus one of the women wore Rachel Welch's outfit from "One Million Years B. C." Welch looked better.

Yup, all the "slaves" did was move beams of wood back and forth. It's not the worst movie I've seen but it was damned close.

Oh phooey--I was expecting it to be good and I was disappointed when I couldn't watch it. I guess I didn't miss anything. Except Bruce, of course.

Have you seen "Bubba Ho-Tep", Trish? If you haven't, I highly recommend it. Bruce as a crotchety old Elvis Presley, fighting a mummy in an old-folks home in East Texas. Total weirdness!

Yup, Denita, I saw "Bubba Ho-Tep." I loved it! I own the book by Joe Lansdale where the short story came from. You might be able to find it at a used book store. I don't know if it's in print anymore. The story "Bubba Ho-Tep" is in Lansdale's book of short stories called "Rider of the Purple Rage." Lansdale is a riot. He's one of my favorite writers. That was another reason I wanted to see "Bubba Ho-Tep." Bruce Campbell doing Joe Lansdale. Doesn't get much better than that.

I made the mistake of describing what I knew about the movie to my wife before we popped it into the DVD. She hears the word 'zombie' and checks out.

Too bad. She missed a great movie. I wonder if the director won a bar bet by doing it, though.
