More On Emergency Contraception: Plan B
The Well-Timed Period has a couple of excellent posts about Plan B, the emergency contraception that would have been sold over the counter if the FDA had approved it. The FDA did not approve it because it believes (1) women would not be able to wrap their pretty little heads around how to properly use it, and (2) there is risk that others may slip pregnant women the pills without their knowledge. Like a woman won't notice she is bleeding and having severe cramps. Besides, why punish a woman for something like that. Punish the people who give her medication without her knowledge or consent. If someone desperately wants a pregnant woman to not give birth, he or she will find ways to prevent that birth from happening.
Also see my previous post about how to use most varieties of birth control pills as emergency contraception and how a woman's right to decide how to handle her own reproduction is in danger today. Reproduction includes giving birth, not giving birth, and deciding under what circumstances to raise her children once they are born (especially if she is single or divorced).

How odd (in a nice way): I was reading some of your posts, and noticed your link to TWTP--thank you. Re. Plan B: I have more stuff, but I'm not sure I'll post it; it's all just so discouraging. When I started the blog, all I wanted to do is let women know about their menstrual management options. Unfortunately, I’ve had to spend most of my posts correcting misinformation about unrelated issues (Plan B, “partial-birth abx”). I’m seriously considering making up a poster: Politicians Making Health Decisions For You. Just Say No! OK, I'm off to take a few deep breaths now :-)

Did you feel compelled to correct misinformation or did someone ask you to? You had so much good information about Plan B I wanted to include it on my blog. I've written before about so-called "partial birth" abortion, but I had little information about Plan B, aside of the fact that the FDA had rejected it. I've had the emergency contraception information (using the usual birth control pills) for a couple of years. I posted it once before and figured this was a good time for a repeat.

No one asked, I just "had to" do it :-)--you come across something that's just plain wrong, and you feel it's your duty to let people know they've been misinformed. I know: I read and linked those posts (the one about the legal aspects was chilling.) Go to this site (http://www.g-h-o.co.uk/id39.htm)--it has detailed info on all 5 EC methods, including Plan B.

"I've had the emergency contraception information (using the usual birth control pills) for a couple of years."
I forgot to add this: for Plan B (a one hormone pill) the one pill brand used as a substitute is Ovrette. The drawback: you have to take a total of 40 pills (vs. 2 with Plan B).
You can use many regular pill brands only for Preven (the two hormone pill).
